An SR-22 is a form that is filed with the state of Illinois. It guarantees that liability for personal injury and/or property damage is in effect. Not every vehicle or driver is required to have a SR-22, the state will inform the driver if a SR-22 is required to insure a vehicle or remove a suspension from a license. If required, the SR-22 will be carried for three years. Your driving privileges are re-instated for as long as the SR-22 insurance is active, if payment is missed a notice of cancellation will be sent to the Secretary of State and your driver’s license suspended.
